Yesterday I was just getting ready to prepare a nice breakfast in the microwave. Unfortunately it hasn't been cleaned in a lot of time and what I saw totally killed my appetite. There were spills and splatters from burned and hardened food all over the microwave and the smell was awful. So I decided to take some time and clean it before it killed someone else's appetite, too. I managed to collect some good tips and methods for cleaning a microwave and I want to share them with you.
You will need:
- a clean towel or cloth
- vinegar
- kitchen cleaner
- lemon juice
- glass cleaning solution
- liquid dish soap
- a sponge
Washing the tray:
Almost every microwave has a removable tray. The easiest way to clean the microwave's tray is to get it off and clean it in the sink. Use warm water and a mild detergent to dissolve the hardened food. Leave the tray in the warm water, if the food stains are stubborn. Then rinse it and leave it on the counter to dry while you are cleaning the microwave.
Cleaning the insides of the microwave:
Get a clean rag or cloth and remove all the crumbs from the microwave. You can sweep them out in a dust pan to avoid making a mess on the floor. After you cleaned the crumbs, spray some kitchen cleaning detergent on the insides of the microwave and leave the detergent to do its work for a couple of minutes. You may need to use a strong detergent, if you are dealing with stubborn food stains.
Removing grease stains:
Grease is very hard to remove when you don't know the right method to do it. Using common detergents will only make it worse. The key to remove grease is not an expensive toxic detergent. It's, in fact, a mix of perfectly natural products and it works like a charm. Mix a bit of baking soda and lemon juice to make a paste. Apply the paste on the walls of the microwave and leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash it off. Baking soda and lemon juice not only remove grease, but they can help you to get rid of strange smells, too.
Drying and deodorizing:
Get a clean cloth and wipe off any detergent or dirt left in the microwave. You can use a soft sponge to remove the hardened food. Dampen the edge of the sponge in warm water and brush the insides of the microwave. Professional cleaners Melbourne recommend that you use vinegar, if your microwave still smells strange even after you cleaned it. Vinegar is known to remove bad odours. After you deodorize the microwave, wipe off the walls with a clean towel and leave it open for a couple of minutes to let it dry on its own.
