Clean Your Suitcase in Few Simple Steps


Travelling and dragging your suitcase along with you can not only make it extremely dirty, but it can damage it, too. If your suitcase have accompanied you on your trips for a long time, it's zipper is stuck or the insides are torn, it's maybe time to change it with a new one. But if the damage is not that big, you may consider cleaning it. Different cleaning solutions can damage the fabric that your suitcase is made of. So you better check your user's manual before you start cleaning your suitcase.

First steps:
First of all, you have to empty your suitcase. There could be some clothes and products that you have forgotten in your suitcase. Get your clothes in the washing machine, throw away all the unnecessary things and check for outdated products and cosmetics. Make sure you've checked all the small hidden pockets for forgotten things. Most people tend to hide money and personal documents in the hidden pockets of their suitcases and after the trip, they forget where they've put them. And don't forget to check for spoiled food. That one sandwich you forgot to throw away can make your suitcase smell really awful. It can also leave bad stains and mildew.
Basic cleaning:
Brush the surface of the suitcase with broom or dry brush. This will loosen the dirt and dust and will help you clean the upholstery of your suitcase, afterwards. Using a hard brush can help you remove animal fur that is stuck in the fabric of the upholstery. Use a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner and extract the loosen dirt and dust. Vacuum clean the insides of your suitcase and all the pockets. To clean the tight places, you can remove the attachment of your vacuum cleaner. If your suitcase isn't that dirty, removing the dust could be all you need to clean it. But if you haven't clean your suitcase for a long time, you will need deeper cleaning and some special cleaning products and materials that you can check out in the list below.

For deep cleaning, you will need:

  • Upholstery shampoo
  • Clean cloth
  • Vinegar or lemon juice
  • Baking soda
How to deep clean your suitcase:
Apply a bit of the upholstery shampoo on a clean cloth or towel. Brush the whole surface of the upholstery to make suds. After you clean the fabric of the upholstery, use a clean cloth and wipe off the detergent and the dirt. If there are stubborn stains, you can use a solution of baking soda mixed with a bit of water. Apply the solution on the stains, leave it to soak and wipe it off after a couple of minutes. For deodorizing, you can use a solution of vinegar or lemon juice. Sprinkle some of the solution inside the suitcase. Leave the suitcase on open air to dry on it's own.
